Trade Desk › When three trades are really one

When three trades are really one trade.

If you are long EUR/USD, long GBP/USD and short USD/CAD, you do not have three trades. You have one bet against the dollar, at three times the risk. The Desk spots these groups and tells you how much to cut the size on each.

The problem: a bad day costs three times what you planned

It is the most common way I see disciplined traders blow a month. Every trade has a stop, every stop is 1% of the account, and the rules are followed perfectly. Then the dollar has one strong day and all three stop out together. A planned 1% loss turns into 3% before lunch.

The trades looked different. They were not. They all depended on the same thing.

What the Desk does about it

The correlation warning · an illustration, not live trades

3 trades lean on the same move: a weaker dollar

EUR/USD longGBP/USD longUSD/CAD short

Treat them as one position. Suggested risk: 0.35x your usual size on each, so the group risks about what one trade would.

  1. It groups by what really moves the trade. Shared currencies for forex, shared themes for stocks and crypto, and only trades pointing the same way.
  2. It suggests a size. Two in a group: half size each. Three: about a third. Four or more: a quarter. The group then risks about what one trade would.
  3. It shows on Home and on every tab, on the trades you are in and the ones about to trigger, before you place them.

Why this is the cheapest edge you can add

It costs nothing to follow and it takes nothing away from the winners. When the dollar does move your way, the group still pays like one good trade. When it moves against you, it costs like one loss, not three. Over a year, that is the difference between a rough month and an account you have to rebuild.

FAQ

Does it change the Desk's levels?

No. Entries, stops and targets stay exactly as published. The warning only suggests how much to risk on each trade in the group.

Is the size suggestion a rule?

It is a guide. If you already trade smaller, or only take one trade from the group, you are covered.

Does it cover stocks and crypto?

Yes. Stocks are grouped by sector and theme, crypto as one group, and metals and oil by what drives them.
